My kittens liked Purina Plan Kitten dry food shredded blend,but they actually prefer the non-shredded product. Something about softer pieces didn’t thrill them.

My New Go-To Kitten Kibble🤷♀️
Purina is a trusted brand among vets. And judging from my kitten’s affinity for table scraps, I believe he is fond of varied textures, so the shredded blend seemed like a better choice compared to uniform kibble.Ingredients and NutritionThe ingredient list meets my expectations and is on par with the rest of Purina’s kibbles for dogs or cats. They include corn, soybean meal, flavors, etc. In other words, these kibbles contain many things beyond just animal ingredients. But they also have beneficial additions like fish meal, dried egg product and fish oil in most of their formulas, including this one.I’m fine with the inclusion of by-products, corn and soy in this formula. My cats are doing very well on this kibble and those ingredients do not seem to be causing any trouble. Otherwise, these ingredients are said to help create a balanced formula; said to help ensure adequate nutrition for kittens by supplementing the high protein and nutrition from animal sources.PalatabilityThere’s nothing remarkable to say about how my kitten eats this food compared to other kibbles he’s tried. He eats it with the same enthusiasm as the rest; it’s just food to him. He might even be a little underwhelmed because I believe he vomited this morning from not eating frequently enough but that happens with every kibble.My kitten seems to eat both the shredded pieces and the kibble without preference. And he transitioned easily onto this formula from the previous kibble (Purina Pro Plan Kitten Dry Food Complete Essentials Chicken and Rice Formula).Digestibility and HealthSince feeding this kibble, I’ve noticed that my kitten’s poop is solid and firm and smells less compared to the previous kibble. He also seems super energetic these days with zoomies, vocalizations and playfighting.My stray cat also has much more energy after a few days on this kibble. For the first time, I saw her pounce on my kitten, possibly to playfight. Her fur has been slowly losing its gumminess and becoming softer. My kitten’s fur remains in optimal condition as it usually does with good quality kibbles.Neither cat has shown any signs of allergies or sensitivities.Value and PracticalityIf you have a single kitten eating only this food, a bag may last about a month and cost ~$20. The price and longevity are better than wet cat foods for sure and the cost is about the same as other kibbles I have tried. It’s not cheap but the quality is good. I would repurchase, although I need to find a way to keep my stray cat from eating this kibble to make it worthwhile.The packaging is not resealable, which seems to be common for Purina kibbles. No big deal, I just transfer the kibble to a gallon-size Ziploc bag, but a little annoying and wasteful to have to throw out the info-rich bag right after opening.Overall ExperienceI do recommend this food to other kitten owners. It’s definitely better than the previous kibble I used and costs about the same per pound. My kitten’s poops smell less and he has more energy.And as of now, this will be my go-to formula as my kitten grows.
