Here’s the fix to the unraveling tubing
Like many reviewers, I’ve had a love-hate relationship with the Tail-Spin Flyer these past few years. It remains my dog’s favorite and that surely is reason enough to try and make it work. Many folks have identified the critical flaw in the current manufacture which is that the tubing that rings the flyer is only taped together where it meets. As the dog plays with the flyer, that point is weakened and the tubing separates. Best case it puts a sharp angle into what should be a circle. Worst case it ruptures the fabric and pops out.Try this fix:1. Buy these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YRRW97R?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details2. Find the point where the tubing ends meet in the outer fabric ring.3. Carefully create a slit by slicing the fabric circumferentially around the joint – I used a razor blade. For a new flyer you want to slice through the tape they use to hold the ends together as well.4. Carefully work out the two ends, insert the splicer, and carefully work the ends back together so the tubing is flush to the center ring of the splicer and back in the fabric tube.5. There’s not a lot of play in that fabric tube, but you can get the repair to rotate a little so that it is in the fabric tube and not exposed at the slit that you made. Hold the plastic tube tight through the fabric then try and tug the fabric along the plastic tube towards the slit. You can repeat this a few times. If the manufacturer of the flyer changes the tubing inside diameter you made need a different splicer, larger or smaller in diameter. The one I used is snug, not super tight, but is getting the job done.We are 3 weeks into using the upgraded flyer, multiple times a day, with a fairly aggressive dog and it hasn’t given out. They never lasted forever but at least now I feel I will get a month or two out of each before they totally tatter.

Dog’s favorite toy!
My dog lives to chase these around. He plays with them everyday and would play all day if I had the energy. They do wear out quickly. The plastic ring around the outside breaks and sticks out of the frisbee. I would say they last maybe a month and I need to replace them. If I didn’t my dog would be too sad. Glad they come in a multi pack at a reasonable price.

No longer has a soft rim and falls apart—dangerous for dogs
My dog and I used to love this product. They used to be durable but more importantly they used to have a soft tubing rim that was gentle for my dog’s mouth when catching the disc. She lives to play frisbee and takes her frisbee where ever she goes. Now there is a hard piece of plastic used for the rim which when combined with colder weather is like a weapon. It actually left her with a bloody mouth this morning. In addition the hard plastic rim breaks down the fabric covering the rim very quickly and then you are left with the plastic hose ends sticking out. With the first frisbee I thought it was a flaw. But this has happened with all 3 of these frisbees so I will no longer be buying this brand for my dog. This company has obviously decided to shamefully sacrifice quality at the animals expense.

Still the best fliers – Straight and good distance
I’ve had a older tail spin flier for years, it was thrown thousands of times for my black lab. Needed another for training a new puppy.I read some reviews noting that the new ones are not as good as the older ones. I made a bad mistake and tried several other fliers. None of those others, would fly as well as my older flier.Despite some of the reviews saying the new product is not as good as the older product, I purchased three of the new ones.I will say this. – The new ones fly just as well as my older one. Hands down, not even close, these are the best / most accurate fliers – They always fly straight (if you have an accurate throwing motion). I’m able to throw these in nearly the exact same spot every time. Very predicable. Very accurate. They get very good distance.I’ve tried several others that either catch too much air resistance and fly short, or they would always go right or left (usually left) despite attempts to correct via my throwing motion. If we believe some other reviews, that the new ones are not as good as the old (I’m nor sure that’s true) – in any case, these still fly better than any other I’ve tried (I bought 4 other brands).I’m highly recommending these simply because they fly so well. I can’t comment on durability, but but the new ones look the same as the one I purchased over 10 years ago. Certainly fly the same.Updated Feb 28 2022, Durability is not great. I’ve ordered 6 packs of three over the last few years, and continue to order. Why? because they fly the best. As of this update, I have tested probably every soft sided disk available at Amazon and local retailers. I keep ordering these because they fly better than any other disk I’ve tested. My lab has tons of energy, even the breeder said he is like the Eveready bunny. I need a great flying disc for the winter. After the snow melts we change to tennis balls and chuck it. I need the distance of these discs. Sure, I wish they lasted longer, but … It is what it is.

Pretty good….but
Could use better construction techniques. They always wear out in the same way. The tubing, which is the rim, is not joined together and comes out of the cover where it’s not joined together. Some of them don’t fly well either, due to the balance being off. Still they work as good as some and much better than others. I’ve tried them all since my dog begs to do it every day. He trashed some of them right away. Some in the first few days. Even a very pricy one, which I won’t mention the brand of. German Shepherd Dog, BTW.

Not the same
There used to be a soft rubber ring around the toy. Now there is a hard plastic ring around the toy. I have an old toy and a new one and my dog always wants the old one with the soft rubber ring. I will never buy it again.
