Best dog frisbee
In the last ~12-18 months, the manufacturer moved the location of where the silicone tube comes together relatives to the sewn fabric joins in the rim, thereby eliminating the early failure mode. At least in the smaller version. With that change, this frisbee now remains usable and fun right up until the fabric is almost completely destroyed. My last one provided many m and months of aerial canine fun. I’ve changed my rating from 3 to 5 stars. If you purchase the larger diameter and the silicone tubing is within ~1″ of the seam in the rim – you can feel it with your fingers – you might consider returning it unused with an explanation as to why you returned it. I’m leaving the original review below for context. My dog is a Shepherd. ~15 months old as I write this, though he’s a little on the small side at ~80 lbs. He loves to play with this toy (as do I ;). He’s rough on it, but then I suppose most dogs would be since it probably activates that chase / hunting instinct. After catching it my dog will chomp all around the edges of it, (the silicone tube forming the rim almost invites this behavior), shakes it vigorously (!) side to side, and uses it to rip up grass by setting it down, biting the middle of it and ripping out the grass that he traps between his teeth on the far side of the disc. He’ll do this for a minute or so until he’s ready for me to throw it, at which point he’ll drop it on the ground and step back. My dog has access to this toy *only* at the dog park when we are playing catch. There have been no tug-of-wars with the two larger discs, nor any other abuse other than that described. Durability of this toy (or the lack thereof) is an issue. Based on my experience with the smaller version (purchased at a local pet store) I purchased two of the larger discs and one of the smaller discs from Amazon. The first 12″ disc I brought to the dog park failed in a single session (10-15 throws / savagings). The second one failed this morning after the third session (50-60 throws). Booda (the manufacturer) secures the ends of the silicone tube by inserting them into a slightly larger, more flexible silicone tube (see photo, top right). They position this splice / juncture at one of the seams in the cloth sleeve that encases the tube. Collectively these form the rim of the disc. Failure occurs because the ends of the tube slip out from the weak point in cloth sleeve. Of the two large-sized discs I’ve used, the failure mode has been both rapid and identical (see photo). It’s a shame, because this is really a good toy. In comparison, the smaller sized disc has lasted 4+ weeks (10-12 sessions a week and ~ 20-25 tosses per week). It doesn’t fly quite as well as the larger size (less stable) and requires a slight breeze to throw into so the disc will hang up a little and give the dog a chance to get to / under it. Until the silicone tube pops out, these can take a *lot* of abuse and still be functional. Once the silicone tube pops out… not so much.

The BEST dog frisbee
If your dog likes catching frisbees, this is the best one I’ve found. Very lightweight and durable. The edge is covered rubber that my dog likes to chew, but she hasn’t destroyed it. Great price.

not durable
I bought some of these for my border collie. She lives for her frisbee and we play with them every day, but these are not as durable as other brands. The fabric begins to disintegrate after a week or two. It becomes unusable in less than a month and gets tossed in the trash. I have gone through four of them. My dog has very worn down teeth and does not use her frisbee as a chew toy, she just catches and returns it. On the plus side, the center fabric is tighter or stiffer than other brands of fabric frisbees, which prevents a behavior that may be unique to my dog – she likes to grab the frisbee by the center when it is on the ground, and pick it up like a taco, along with whatever is underneath it. She has destroyed most of my lawn that way. So I did like these at first.

Best Dog Frisbee Disc
People frequently ask me when I’m at the Park with Ralph, “how did you train your dog to do that?”My answer, I started with the smallest Booda disc when Ralph was a puppy, read the instructions on the package, followed them, and gradually worked up to the largest size as Ralph grew.If your dog has the retrieval instinct, I think there are two keys to training a great frisbee dog.1/. Throw the frisbee well. This is probably most important. The dog will lose interest if he has no chance of catching the disc in the first place. Get the biggest disc your dog can carry. This makes it much easier to throw well. I really like the 12-inch version the best2/. Have a good Disc:In this regard, the Booda disc is GREAT as its perimeter weighting makes it almost self leveling. It frequently looks like it’s floating in the air. This makes it more fun and rewarding for Ralph to catch. It’s also soft on the mouth, so Ralph can really launch himself at it in mid air without fear of hurting himself.Ralph won’t catch other discs at all. I’ve tried.Review Update: Taking away one star due to quality inconsistencies. Approx 25%-50% of discs received are sewn improperly or have poor materials, making them very hard to throw well. I order perhaps 2 per month, and have done for years. Now with a new puppy after Ralph passed away, he likes the 7-inch version for now.
